Hey, Dave B. here. I run InstruMentalCase.com, which is a virtuoso instrumental guitar fansite of sorts, and I’m a student of Rusty’s again now.

I just wanted to thank you for putting this whole interview together, as it’s kind of a once in a lifetime chance for me to hear all of these guys together. I’m actually a huge fan of all of them.

I fell in love with Rusty’s self-titled debut years ago, and it really served as the gateway for me to get into the modern progressive shred type stuff at that time, having only been into the more traditionally melodic hard rock instrumentalists up to that point.

John’s stuff was a breath of fresh air for me when I first heard him years ago, after Vertigo came out. I have all of his CD’s (minus the new remix) and a couple of his tab books sitting right next to me at the moment!

Nevermore is one of my favorite vocal metal bands, and I’ve just started listening to Jeff’s solo record, which is really cool in that he managed to mix the neo-classical with prog shred, but still stay true to his super heavy style, so you get the shred and the awesome hardcore rhythms in parts.

I love Richie’s stuff too, especially his more R&B / pop-leaning stuff actually! Normally I go for strict instrumentalists, but Richie is definitely one of those exceptions for me, as he blends fantastic singing and songwriting with the wonderful licks and solos. Go Faster has been in my head for like a year now, and I still love records like Change and Slow – awesome production values, too!

Becker… what can I say? He’s a freakin’ living legend. “End of the Beginning” is still one of my favorite pieces of music of all time! It’s great to see his recent resurgence with the best-of finally being available, as well as the signature guitar and the pedal of course. Man, what a fantastic sense of humor on that guy, too! It’s cool to see him there, interacting with Jeff and Rusty, who I know are huge fans of his.

Anyway, I’m rambling… thanks again though, I just wanted you to know I am a true fan of all of these guys and I FULLY appreciate what you’ve done here. Keep it up!

P.S. Rusty’s new OD pedal kicks ass, too! I got to try it recently and it definitely knocks everything up just enough to help out with your playing AND your tone. Picking palm muted stuff across multiple strings is really assisted by this pedal, as it just emphasizes all the articulations and makes everything sound just a bit livelier and more intense. I'm looking forward to seeing a Loomis pedal one of these days, too!

Hey thanks for the kind words... and I apologize for the lag in response!

One of the things that was crucial in designing Rusty's pedal was making your tone BETTER, not just louder. If you roll your guitars volume back a bit the pedal still gives great clarity and rings like a bell!

Hey guys, I heard the song that was playing right before the interview and I was wondering who is the artist that created that material? The song just rocks! Just curious...

The intro music was done by voodooNOUVEAU. Its was written and recorded with Pro Tone Pedals exclusively for the killer tones... they used the Monster Fuzz, Body Rot 2, and a wah wah pedal we no longer produce.

      Thanks for the note...
